Green light for AMG’s major new commercial and community development

Aeria Management Group (AMG) has secured approval for a major mixed-use development at Bankstown Airport, to support the community, businesses and aviation operators.

The $80 million Birdwood Road Mixed-Use Project Major Development Plan (MDP), which was approved by the Commonwealth Government in September 2025, will deliver essential services, sustainability initiatives and commercial opportunities in South-West Sydney, including new retail shops, offices, warehouses and a childcare centre.

The development, which is now open for leasing queries, will generate significant economic and employment growth, contributing $110 million a year to the New South Wales economy and supporting 500 full-time jobs once operational.

Tom Smith, CEO of AMG, which manages Bankstown Airport and Camden Airport, said the Georges Hall development will deliver commercial opportunities for a range of businesses, including health and medical facilities, professional services, trades and aviation-related operators.

“This major investment in first-class facilities and services at Bankstown Airport will generate long-term benefits for South-West Sydney and beyond, including economic and employment growth, business opportunities and sustainability initiatives,” he said.

“We are proud to help meet the growing needs of residents and businesses for essential services, such as shops, offices, industrial warehouses and childcare. Thank you to the Commonwealth Government, our owner Aware Super, our partners and community for your support as we continue to build Bankstown Airport into NSW’s leading aviation and commercial hub.”

Construction of the Birdwood Road development is expected to commence in mid-2026 and take about 12-18 months to complete.

The successful progress of the mixed-use MDP follows the recent approval of AMG’s major new hangar development plan at Bankstown Airport, to support general aviation, flight training and emergency services.

AMG has invested more than $500 million over the past decade in facilities, infrastructure and amenity at Bankstown Airport and Camden Airport, across general aviation and key industries, such as manufacturing, distribution and the retail and community sectors.
