AMG secures approval for major hangar development

Aeria Management Group (AMG) has secured approval for a major hangar development at Bankstown Airport to support general aviation, flight training and emergency services.

The development at Bankstown Airport, which AMG manages along with Camden Airport, will deliver two new aircraft hangar buildings and facilities to accommodate up to 10 general aviation operations in Southwest Sydney.

The $60 million Aviation Hangar Project Major Development Plan (MDP) was approved by the Commonwealth Government in late July, with Infrastructure and Transport Minister Catherine King acknowledging “the contribution Bankstown Airport makes to the economy and transport infrastructure of New South Wales”.

AMG CEO Tom Smith said the development will help meet the needs of Australian aviation. “The first-class hangar facilities will support critical general aviation operations, such as emergency and aeromedical services for metropolitan and regional areas” he said.

“Bankstown Airport is a centre of excellence for aviation, innovation, economic growth and jobs. Thank you to Minister King, our owner Aware Super, our operators, partners and community for helping us gain approval for these high-quality facilities to support general aviation.”

The hangar development, which will be constructed on a pre-commitment basis, includes significant sustainability features, such as on-site solar power, rainwater harvesting and energy efficient lighting.

AMG has invested more than $500 million over the past decade in Bankstown Airport and Camden Airport, across general aviation and key industries, such as manufacturing, distribution and the retail and community sectors.

AMG’s ongoing investments in general aviation include major upgrades to airport runways and taxiways and the Aviation Microsites Development Program, which is delivering multiple new or enhanced aircraft hangars.
