Volunteers help save wombats from deadly disease at Camden Airport
Did you know that Camden Airport has the second largest wombat population in Southwest Sydney?
To help keep the wombats healthy, Camden Airport runs a wombat mange treatment program. Wombat mange is a skin disease that can be debilitating for wombats and causes death.
Greater Sydney Local Land Services, together with Camden Wombats volunteers, has started an 18 month program which sees flaps set up at burrow entrances. The flaps distribute a liquid treatment to the wombats as they enter and leave their burrows.
This will be the second time the program is run at Camden Airport, and in 2017 the wombat population across the airport was successfully treated.
