Angela Skandarajah appointed Chair of Bankstown and Camden airports operator AMG
Leading property and infrastructure development executive Angela Skandarajah has been appointed Chairperson of Aeria Management Group (AMG), which operates Bankstown Airport and Camden Airport in Southwest Sydney.
Angela has more than 25 years’ experience in the real estate sector, including as CEO of Development Victoria, and is a strong advocate for urban renewal, wellbeing and inclusion.
Her appointment by AMG owner Aware Super will commence on 1 July, following the eight-year term of current Chair Peter Achterstraat AM.
“I am excited about leading the AMG Board and working with CEO Tom Smith and the AMG team at such an exciting time for the company, as it transforms Bankstown Airport and Camden Airport into NSW’s No 1 aviation, industry and innovation hubs,” Angela said.
“I look forward to building on Peter’s great work as Chair in helping to ensure our airports meet the essential needs of communities and businesses, across metropolitan and regional areas.”
Bankstown Airport and Camden Airport are home to NSW’s emergency and aeromedical services and generate substantial economic and employment growth, contributing $1.8 billion a year to the State economy and supporting 9000 jobs.
Aware Super Head of Property Alek Misev added the appointment of a Chair of Angela’s calibre highlighted AMG’s strong reputation in market.
“AMG not only plays a pivotal role in local businesses and communities but is also a strong source of returns for our 1.2 million members, many of whom are also employed as nurses, first responders, public servants and teachers,” he said.
“We are excited to be working with Angela as these assets continue to unlock opportunities as leading commercial, aviation and innovation precincts.”
AMG CEO Tom Smith said Angela’s property experience will help guide the company’s ambitious plans to develop a new aviation hangar precinct and a separate mixed-use hub supporting the community and local businesses.
“Angela’s expertise in precinct development will be invaluable to the continuing contribution of Bankstown Airport and Camden Airport across multiple sectors, such as emergency and aeromedical services and logistics,” he said.
“Her commitment to people-first organisational cultures and diversity and inclusion will help us deliver ongoing growth while prioritising great outcomes for our people and the broader community, across Western Sydney and NSW.”
Tom also thanked outgoing Chair Peter Achterstraat AM, who has overseen significant investment across Bankstown Airport and Camden Airport since his appointment by Aware Super in 2017.
“I would like to join Aware Super in expressing my deep gratitude to Peter for his guidance as Chair,” Tom said. “His clear focus, sage advice and steady hand have helped steer AMG during a period of extraordinary growth. Thank you, Peter, for your leadership at AMG and ongoing service to the people of NSW.”
Angela is Chairperson of Development Victoria, a director of the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research and Member of the Board of Trustees for the Queen Victoria Women’s Centre.
While CEO of Development Victoria, from 2019 to 2024, she was instrumental in delivering significant infrastructure projects, such as the Melbourne Park redevelopment and State Basketball Centre upgrade. She previously led law firm MinterEllison’s national real estate, environment and planning practice.
