AMG takes flight with $130 million investment in new precincts
Aeria Management Group has announced a $130 million investment in two new infrastructure projects at Aeria precinct for the benefit of aviation, industry and the community.
The Major Development Plans will support enhanced facilities and services at Aeria, home of Bankstown Airport, including a proposed aviation hub of up to nine new hangars.
The plans were announced at the City of Canterbury Bankstown’s CB Evolve event at Bankstown Airport, on 8 November, which highlighted the transformation of Aeria into NSW’s leading aviation, logistics and sustainability hub.
Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Bilal El-Hayek joined AMG Chief Executive Daniel Jarosch to host the event at the 310-hectare Aeria precinct, which is also home to the award-winning Altitude Premier Logistics Estate.
Mayor El-Hayek said that as the third busiest airport in Australia, Bankstown Airport and the surrounding precinct supported more than 160 businesses and 6500 jobs and contributed over $1 billion to the NSW economy each year.
“The potential to double the number of jobs and investment in our city is not a ‘pie in the sky’ vision – it’s a reality,” Mayor El-Hayek said. “It is no surprise that council’s commitment to providing opportunities to connect, share knowledge and ideas and form partnerships or collaborations, has led us to become one of the most innovative cities in Australia.”
AMG, which is owned by Aware Super, manages and operates Aeria precinct and Camden Airport, in South West Sydney.
Mr Jarosch said the company’s two new Major Development Plans, to be released in early 2024, would set the standard for 21st century airport precincts.
“Our planned $50 million central aviation precinct at Bankstown Airport will include up to nine new hangars with priority VIP aircraft access, to meet the needs of aviators today and beyond. This includes private charters, maintenance, flight training and advanced air mobility technologies, which will be powered by electric and hydrogen aircraft and next-generation drones,” he said.
“Aeria and Canterbury Bankstown are firmly in the cockpit for emerging aviation technologies and the national flight path towards ‘jet zero’.”
AMG also announced a Major Development Plan for a new mixed-use retail and industrial precinct. The $80 million proposed development is anticipated to include warehouse units, shops, office suites and a childcare centre, bringing better services to residents, local businesses and families, Mr Jarosch said.
“Together with our new central aviation precinct, these plans highlight our long-term investment in aviation, industry and community.”
AMG will release both Major Development Plans in the new year, including extensive consultation with airport operators and community members.
CB Evolve was MCed by ABC Radio Sydney host James Valentine and featured keynote speaker Kate Munari – Australia’s only female Navy helicopter pilot to fly combat missions in Afghanistan.
Other highlights of the event included an in-depth look at the aircraft driving growth at Bankstown Airport, including emergency services helicopters and Australia’s first flying car – which will be powered by electricity and hydrogen.
The event also featured an insightful panel discussion among leading industry experts, including:
• NSW Productivity Commissioner Peter Achterstraat AM;
• Aware Real Estate CEO Michelle McNally;
• Toll NSW Ambulance ACE Training Centre GM Diane Tremain;
• Quickstep COO Demi Stefanova; and
• AMSL Aero co-founder Siobhan Lyndon.
“From emergency service operators to flight training schools, private charters and aircraft maintenance, through to major manufacturing, freight and logistics companies and retail and customer outlets, our precincts play an essential role in supporting NSW – in the air and on the ground,” Mr Jarosch said.
