We’ve partnered with AMSL Aero to propel zero-emission flight into reality

Hydrogen-Powered Aviation Takes Off at Bankstown Airport!

AMSL Aero has wrapped up its first year of hydrogen fuel cell testing at Bankstown Airport – marking a major step toward zero-emission air travel in Australia.

Since mid-2024, AMSL Aero has tested more than 200kg of hydrogen at its one-of-a-kind 100kW fuel cell test bench, helping validate the hydrogen powertrain for its electric aircraft, Vertiia. Designed to fly up to 1,000km, Vertiia is set to transform regional and emergency aviation.

Bankstown Airport, operated by Aeria Management Group, is proud to host this groundbreaking work – becoming the first airport in the country to introduce hydrogen as an aviation fuel. The testing has even contributed energy to the airport grid, saving around 1.8MWh in power costs.

“This partnership reflects our commitment to pioneering sustainable aviation in Australia,” said Tom Smith, CEO of Aeria Management Group.

The test bench now heads to Wellington Aerodrome to support upcoming Vertiia flight tests.
