AMG calls for government innovation funding for net zero take-off

Aeria Management Group, operator of Bankstown Airport and Camden Airport, has called on the Commonwealth Government to establish innovation and infrastructure funds to support the transition towards electric and hydrogen aircraft and net zero.

AMG’s submission to the government’s Aviation Green Paper says a national network of innovation hubs at metropolitan general aviation airports will transform Australia into a leader in Advanced Air Mobility, including zero emissions aircraft, so-called “flying cars” and next-generation drones.

“Australia has the potential to lead the evolution towards electric-hydrogen aircraft, uncrewed flights and drones, which will fly the future of essential services such as patient transfers, search-and-rescue missions and flight training, along with faster freight deliveries and city commutes and enhanced regional connectivity,” said AMG CEO Daniel Jarosch.

“General aviation airports such as Bankstown Airport and Camden Airport are perfectly placed to become world-leading innovation hubs. Government support through our proposed new Aviation Infrastructure Fund and Aviation Innovation Fund is critical to enabling the development and take-up of emerging technologies and the delivery of national net zero targets.”

The Aviation Green Paper is part of a government process to set policies to support the evolution of the sector towards 2050.

AMG’s submission also calls for a comprehensive airspace review for Greater Sydney and other capital cities to facilitate the tripling in annual aircraft movements to 8-9 million.

The submission also highlights the urgent need for reforms to training, education and qualification pathways to fill growing gaps in numbers of pilots and aircraft engineers.
