Supporting general aviation and industrial needs

The South Tower Road Project at Bankstown Airport will support key aviation and industrial sectors and generate economic and employment growth, for the benefit of businesses and communities across South-West Sydney.

The redevelopment of 617-618 Tower Road, commencing in May 2026, will revitalise underutilised land and infrastructure at the airport by delivering two new facilities:

  • Hybrid aviation hangar and industrial building. The new hangar will significantly increase lettable aviation area and access to aviation infrastructure at the airport, including a new airside apron and taxiway upgrades as part of the development; and
  • Standalone industrial facility.

The new, high-quality aviation hangar will be leased to long-term airport customer NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service, as part of AMG’s ongoing support for essential public services.

Each of the two new facilities will be complemented by loading docks, car parking, landscaping and services. The development will also deliver significant sustainability features, such as solar power, rainwater retention and advanced energy and water monitoring systems.

Key features

  • Total development scope: The project includes 8409sqm of total new Gross Lettable Area (GLA) across two buildings
  • Facility types: The project will deliver a hybrid aviation hangar and industrial building and a standalone industrial facility, each supported by ancillary office spaces
  • Design features: The new facilities will include 12.0m and 10.7m internal clearance, large hardstand, high load-bearing pavement, landscaping, car parking and services
  • Prime-grade aviation hangar: The project will deliver a new, high-quality aviation hangar totalling 2646sqm of GLA
  • Net aviation gain: The development will deliver an increase of 1167 sqm (or 79%) in lettable aviation area, compared with the previous site configuration
  • Sustainabilty features: The project will feature solar-enabled structures, LED lighting, daylight harvesting (at least 10% translucent sheeting), rainwater retention, extensive landscaping and advanced energy/water monitoring systems
  • Safety standards: An independent assessment against the National Airports Safeguarding Framework (NASF) has confirmed no adverse windshear or turbulence impacts from the proposed design
  • Traffic impact assessment: The project will have minor impacts on the performance of the existing traffic network.

Construction program

Project set-up works are scheduled to commence in early May 2026, including installation of perimeter fencing and establishment of environmental and safety controls. Construction works are expected to start in about mid-May.

Works are expected to take approximately 12 months, concluding in about mid-2027.
